Update for the XXJVU 2.3.6 firmware

Some have good results doing immediately the direct update for the XXJW4 version however I’ve had some problems like “boot loops” (starts in infinity cycle) even after doing all the swipes (factory resets and cache partition). For that reason I advise in a first stage the update for the XXJVU version like a between point for our final goal. Down to work:

  • Do the zip download I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA.zip and extract the content. It should have 3 files.md5, 1 pit and 1 executable the Odin.
  • Execute the Odin.
  • Turn off the smartphone and remove the SIM and the external SD card.
  • Restart the smartphone in the Download mode keeping pressed at the same time the “volume down”, “menu” and “power” buttons. It should appear an image like the following picture:

  • Connect the smartphone (in the download mode) to an USB port using the microUSB cable and while the Odin is open.
  • The ID:COM zone should become yellow like in the picture bellow. Otherwise reinstall the smartphone USB drivers (the Kies) and repeat since the previous step. If it still doesn’t works try these drivers for 32bit or 64bit.

  • Press in itch one of the indicated buttons and select the corresponding files:
    • PIT: s1_odin_20100512.pit
    • PDA: CODE_I9000XXJVU_CL851880_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
    • Phone: MODEM_I9000XXJVU_REV_00_CL1092175.tar.md5
    • CSC: GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVU.tar.md5
  • Very Important:  clear the “Re-partition” option
  • The window should similar to this picture:

  • Press Start to initiate the ROM flash and wait a few minutes until the first board above the ID:COM is green and say “PASS”

Executing the wipes

It’s necessary to do a reset to the users and cache dada. This procedure deletes all the user definitions.

  • Turn off the smartphone and restart it by pressing at the same time the “volume up”, “home” and “power” buttons
  • In the “recovery” screen use the volume buttons to navigate in the menu and the “home” button to confirm the chosen option.
    • Choose the option “wipe data/factory reset”.
    • Choose the option “wipe cache partition”.
    • Choose “reboot system now”
  • The new XXJVU version will be loaded so you can ignore all the configuration steps
  • Turn off again the smartphone.

Update to the XXJW4 2.3.6 firmware

  • Do the zip I9000XXJW4_I9000OXAJW4_XEU.rar download and extract its content. It should have 1 file.tar, 1 dll and the executable Odin
  • Execute the Odin
  • Start your smartphone in the Download mode keeping pressed ate the same time the “volume down”, “menu” and “power” buttons.
  • Connect the smartphone (in the download mode) to a USB port using the microUSB cable and while the Odin is open
  • The ID:COM zone should become yellow like in the picture bellow. Otherwise reinstall the smartphone USB drivers (the Kies) and repeat since the previous step. If it still doesn’t work try these drivers to 32bit or 64bit.

  • Click in “PDA” and select the file JW5_JV4_JW4.tar, just extracted
  • Press “Start”: after a few minutes this should be the screen:

  • And with that you finished to update your Samsung Galaxy S for the XXJW4 version. Check in Definitions> About phone the new smartphone characteristics.

If the SGS starts behaving in a strange way (ex: the app block) it could be necessary do a reset of the user and cache dada. This procedure deletes all the user definitions. For that turn off the smartphone and restart that by pressing at the same time the “volume up”, “home”, “power” buttons. In the “recovery” screen use the volume buttons to navigate in the menu and the “home” button to confirm the chosen option.
